earned his B.A. in English from the University of Washington. Upon graduation, he served for four years as a naval officer aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. Shortly afterwards, Michael began his almost four-decade career as a Metro bus driver. Widely published in journals such as Poetry, Poetry Northwest, Georgia Review, and Southern Review, he has published five poetry collections: The Spine (Purdue, 1987), Adam Chooses (Rose Alley, 1998), Crush Depth (Truman State University, 2009), The Bus Driver's Threnody (Truman State University, 2014), and Umbilical (St. Augustine's, 2016). Michael also has poems in many anthologies, including those from Rose Alley: Limbs of the Pine, Peaks of the Range; Many Trails to the Summit; and Footbridge Above the Falls. He lives in Tukwila with his wife, writer and teacher Sharon Hashimoto.
